How the CFL standings work
The CFL ranks teams by points: two for a win and one for a tie. Ties are real in Canadian football because regular-season overtime is limited to two possessions each, so a team’s record reads wins-losses-ties and the PTS column is the number that matters. Our winning percentage column counts a tie as half a win, which gives exactly the same order.
Games back shows the distance to the division leader. Because the West has five teams and the East four, the two divisions are shown as separate tables, and the full table ranks all nine clubs together for comparison.
How the CFL playoff format works
Six teams qualify, three from each division. The first-place team gets a bye straight to the Division Final and hosts it. The second-place team hosts the third-place team in the Division Semi-Final, and the winner travels to the first-place team. The West and East champions then meet in the Grey Cup.
The crossover rule adds a twist: if the fourth-place team in one division finishes with more points than the third-place team in the other, it takes that third spot and plays its Semi-Final in the other division. A tie on points does not trigger a crossover. The playoff picture page shows the current top threes and the bracket.
CFL tiebreakers in brief
When teams are level on points, wins come first. After that the league looks at the games between the tied teams: head-to-head wins, then head-to-head net points. If still level, the order is net points in all games, then points scored, with net offensive touchdowns and points allowed as the final steps. With three or more teams tied, the combined record among them is used, and the list restarts once a team is separated. The tiebreakers page shows every current tie and how it breaks today.
How to read the columns
W, L and T are wins, losses and ties. PTS is points (two per win, one per tie) and PCT is winning percentage with ties counting half. GB is games behind the division leader. PF and PA are points for and against and DIFF is the difference. HOME and AWAY split the record by venue, STRK is the current streak, L5 the last five games, and NEXT the next opponent, with @ for road games. The legend under each table defines every column and the clinch tags: x playoff spot, z first place and the bye.
When are CFL standings updated?
After the final whistle of every game, including the late Western games, so the table is correct by the morning. The timestamp under the table shows the last update in your local time, and arrows next to a team mark movement since the last results. The regular season ends in late October and the playoffs run through the Grey Cup in mid November.
